What is Membership?
- Membership in the United Methodist Church means that you have been baptized and professed a faith in Christ and express your commitment to the local congregation, supporting it by your prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
- So do I have to be baptized in your church?
We believe in one Baptism and so accept baptisms from other Christian denominations. There is no need to be baptized again.

How do I become a member?
- If you wish to become a member during a worship service, fill out the “How to Join Card” in the back of the seat in front of you and bring it forward to a pastor during the last song, after an Invitation to join is offered. The pastor will ask you to make the commitment of membership – supporting the church by your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
- If you have not been baptized and/or professed your faith, a pastor will guide you in that as well.
What if I would prefer not to be in front of the congregation?
- You can join one-on-one with a pastor after worship, meet with a pastor during the week or call the church office and then the congregation can welcome and celebrate you the following week during the joys and concerns.
What if I don’t live in Central Arkansas and don’t come in person? Can I still be a member?
- Absolutely! We have members of our congregation who live all over. In addition to worship on TV and online, we have a number of ways for those who wish to be a part of our church to connect and serve.
Is there a class?
- There is not a class required for joining the church. However, twice a year we have a class called “What We Believe” where you can learn more about the beliefs of the denomination and explore your own beliefs with others.
- There is another Coffee with a Pastor two times a year to get to know a little more about PHUMC, how it operates, and how to get connected. These classes can be taken at any point before or after you join!
