FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does this place matter?

Our facilities are crucial, not just for our personal milestones of weddings, funerals, baptisms, and worship services, but also for the vital outreach programs that serve our Hillcrest community and beyond. From our food pantry and diaper bank to Vacation Bible Camp and Al-Anon groups, our church buildings are a beacon of hope and support across the community, state, and United Methodist connection.

When were the buildings built?
  • Sanctuary and main building – 1950
  • Norma Story Building – 1959
  • Argue Christian Life Center – 1986
  • Discipleship Center Building – 2005
  • Skybridge and Gathering Hall – 2015
When is Pledge Sunday
  • Pledge cards will be available in print and online beginning Sunday, September 7. Legacy Sunday is on October 12 and that is when pledge cards will be turned in during services.
  • If you would like to notify the church of your pledge prior to the fall, please call or email Megan Rugg (501-978-0502 or mrugg@phumc.com).
Can I pay my pledge now?

Yes. To give your pledge online, go to phumc.com/give and select THIS PLACE MATTERS from the drop down menu. To give with a check, put THIS PLACE MATTERS in the memo line.

What is the time-frame to give my pledge?

Pledges will be a three year commitment over and beyond your tithe to the church beginning October 2025 through October 2028.

What is the capital campaign paying for?

The campaign is paying for maintenance and repairs to our current structure. We are investing in our building so it will be around for the next 75 years.

Who created the list of projects for the capital campaign?

PHUMC’s Director of Facilities and Maintenance, Steve Biffle, prepared the list with input from Dr. Robbins, Rev. Clark and other leadership.

Why haven’t we performed the projects already?

The costs of these projects in past years made them prohibitive. We are now in a position financially that the church can address these much needed issues.

What is the timing of performing these projects?

The projects will be managed by Steve Biffle, PHUMC Director of Facilities and Maintenance, and the Preservation Oversite Committee (chaired by Daryl Coker). They will be performed in order of most urgent to least urgent needs.

What is the Building Committee?

The Building Committee will be chaired by Daryl Coker and will manage the projects listed. They will be responsible for prioritizing the list, gathering quotes and updated estimates, and following through with vendors on completion of the projects.

Are we hiring a capital campaign consultant?

No. All of the capital campaign administration is being performed in-house.

What is preventing the church from having to do this again?

Part of this capital campaign is the creation of a building fund which the church’s operating budget will contribute to annually. The amount in 2025 is $50,000. The hope is that by saving each year, the church will be prepared the next time significant maintenance is needed.
