Talking About It
Jim Powell, Artist
Donated by PHUMC Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Vic and Freddie Nixon
This is a painting depicting Rev. Vic Nixon and Rev. Lewis Chesser. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Rev. Nixon was assigned to Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Rev. Chesser was assigned to the Wesley Foundation at the University of Arkansas. Rev. Chesser also served St. James UMC, Fayetteville, an African American congregation which was temporarily without a pastor. The artist, Jim Powell, lived in Fayetteville around this same time. The three men were good friends.
Rev. Nixon and Rev. Chesser enjoyed meeting regularly for coffee and visits on various subjects and topics solving “all the world’s problems!” You could say that they loved to “Talk About It.”
