Labyrinth

What is Labyrinth?

The labyrinth is an ancient symbol related to wholeness and combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path.  Representing the path of life, the labyrinth can provide a symbolic journey in the form of a walking meditation and the opportunity for insight, courage, and understanding in facing life’s challenges.

With a long and rich history dating 4,000 BC., the labyrinth provides a single path that leads to and from the center, unlike a maze which is designed as entertainment with the objective to find one’s way out of the design rather than to be enlightened within it.

How Do I Walk the Labyrinth?

There is no right or wrong way to walk a labyrinth as long as the desire to walk is consciously chosen.  Labyrinth walking is not a perfectionist act: it is necessary to walk outside the lines.  Whatever happens during the spiritual exercise of labyrinth walking can be used as a metaphor for our spiritual lives.

PHUMC’s labyrinth is located inside Wesley Hall off the Lee St. Entrance. Our labryinth is currently not available for public access at this time due to Covid-19.
