Adult Choirs

Wall Mural by Matt McLeod
Sanctuary Choir
The Sanctuary Choir rehearses each Wednesday evening in the Choral Rehearsal Room (rm. M110) from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. New members will be greeted with warmth and assigned music and a robe. The Sanctuary Choir rehearses 30 minutes prior to the 10:30 a.m. service.
Every week, the latest anthem or special music is posted on the Music Ministry’s YouTube Channel. Check out the video’s from the 2009 Lessons and Carols Service.
All choirs are non-auditioned and welcome all who love to sing and who will be committed to attending rehearsals and Sunday worship. Those who have sung in high school and college choirs will find our choirs to be a fellowship within a large congregation and a great place to participate in the leadership of worship while singing a wide variety of musical styles. Every effort is made in rehearsals to teach basic elements of musicianship and vocal technique.
New Song
Similar to the Sanctuary Choir, New Song rehearses and sings every other Sunday at the 8:15 worship service. Rehearsals are from 5:40 p.m. – 6:40 p.m. on alternating Sunday evenings and 7:45 a.m. on performance Sunday’s.
Energizers
Our always-faithful older adult choir sings once a month at the 8:15 worship service. This dedicated group meets on Thursday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 and 7:45 a.m. on performance Sunday’s.

Community Easter Sunrise Service
In addition to their weekly worship leadership roles, the vocal groups from PHUMC joins groups from the surrounding Little Rock area for special services and programs. In 2003, the choirs of PHUMC joined with the choirs of Philander Smith College in a performance of Requiem by Gabriel Faure featuring Jessye Norman as Soprano soloist. Included among the many annual events are the annual Lessons and Carols Service and the Community Easter Sunrise service in Downtown Little Rock, lead by the choirs of PHUMC and other choirs from the community.
