Reflections on the Columbarium

Columbarium Garden

I have been a supporter of the PHUMC Columbarium since its inception – actually since it was in the planning stage. I became even more involved after becoming the director in June, when Betsy Branton retired.
However, I have gained a deeper appreciation after September 8, 2008, when my sister Anne Hansen was inurned there. It was Anne’s wish that she be cremated and that her cremains (ashes) be placed in a niche. She wanted to be close to the church that she loved dearly. Making that important decision brought her peace.
It brings me great comfort to stop by the Columbarium for moments during the week,  or to sit on one of the benches in that beautiful place to meditate, pray and remember. Wayne and I plan to make application for niches in the Columbarium very soon. We also plan to purchase memorial plates for our loved ones who are buried elsewhere.
If you have not visited the Columbarium (located just east of Shamblin Chapel on Woodlawn), I encourage you to do so. I invite you to consider making the Columbarium Garden your final resting place. Spaces in the common ground or in niches may be purchased. If you have questions about prices or the application process, please call me at 664-3600.
