PH Foundation
Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Foundation, established in 1958, benefits ministries now and in the future. Every gift to the foundation is a gift that keeps on giving and growing now and beyond the lifetime of the giver. Even the smallest gift will grow through the years to a very large sum to benefit the church.
Giving is an Act of Faith
THE PURPOSE of the PHUMC Foundation is to strengthen the ministries and mission of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church through planned giving and endowment, enabling persons to grow faith in Christ.
Gifts That Fund Ministries Forever
God calls us to be faithful stewards of our possessions. As Christians, we share the affirmation that all we have comes from God.
One option you have in acting on that faith is to include your church in your plans for giving – either in the present or in the future. To ensure your plans are properly carried out, you need a will or other estate-planning document.
As United Methodists, we believe that the tithe is the Christian standard of giving. That standard extends to our future giving, as well as our current giving.
This information will help you understand:
WHY PHUMC needs your gift, and
HOW you can give to PHUMC.
WHERE CAN I GIVE?
Once you have decided that making a present gift or leaving a future gift to PHUMC is an act of faith, to what can you give?
PHUMC has many ministries which may benefit by a gift to a general endowment fund such as:
- Worship
- Children
- Youth
- Older Adults
- Christian Education
- Music and Arts
- Local Ministries
- Missions
- Building and Maintenance
You may desire to designate your gifts according to those blessings which have been the most enriching for you; or you may make an undesignated gift.
HOW AND WHAT CAN I GIVE?
There are many ways to give, but planning your gift is important for you and for PHUMC. Which one is best for you depends upon your purposes. If you are using planned giving for estate planning purposes, then there are many tax consequences you should consider with your attorney, CPA, or other advisor. As our tax laws change, new ideas continue to be developed, but the most popular alternatives today include:
- Outright Gifts. Making a present gift to your church is a common choice. Usually such gifts are in cash, but any type of property, stocks, bonds, or other assets could be given.
- Real Estate. Any type of real estate can be given to your church. A personal residence can be given now, while you continue to live there. You might be able to get a current tax deduction.
- Wills. You may make a testamentary gift by including your church in your will or testamentary trust. Such gifts are the most common. You can leave a piece of real estate or some other asset.
- Deferred Gifts. You may also use a variety of methods to make a deferred gift to your church. You may have heard of many of these:
- the charitable remainder trust
- the charitable remainder annuity
- the charitable lead trust
A gift of any size is important. Generally with endowments, the principal is invested and only the income is used by the church. Your gift, when combined with the gifts of others, increases the principal and remains intact.
The possibilities for giving are endless. For your protection and peace of mind, you should consult with your personal advisors and family when making a gift to the church. If you would like more information, contact the church office or a member of the PHUMC Foundation Board.

ACT NOW
5 Steps in Planning Giving:
- Pray. Prayerfully consider making a gift to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church.
- Study. Ask for information on the PHUMC Endowment Funds and decide how to distribute your gift.
- Remember – NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL. Leaving a gift of any size to an established Endowment Fund lets your gift and the gifts of many others enjoy the benefits of growing together to leave a lasting gift of income to the church.
- Ask questions of the church pastor and your advisors. You will want to carefully plan your gift to the best advantage of you, your estate, and the church. Remember that gifts can be made during your lifetime and not just at death.
- Prepare your written document. With your advisors, prepare a written document with specific instructions about your wishes – a will, a trust, or some other instrument.
Giving is an Act of Faith … and Love.
About the Executive Director..
Rev. Lynn Wimberly Lindsey, executive pastor at PHUMC, has been named director of the PHUMC Foundation, effective January 1, 2005. The director’s position is a half-time responsibility, and she will continue to serve as executive pastor.
“I am very excited about Rev. Lindsey becoming PHUMC Foundation director,” said Rev. Vic Nixon, senior pastor. “She has all the basic skills and the willingness to develop new skills needed for the position. I believe this is a very important step toward the accomplishment of a dream for growing the Foundation and future funding for ministries of Christ in the church.”
Rev. Lindsey, an ordained deacon, has been a PHUMC member since childhood and a staff member for more than 20 years. She will continue to work full time at the church. As Foundation director, she will be responsible for development of planned giving and gifts to the Foundation for support of the church’s ministries.
“This is an exciting time in the life of our church” according to Keith Billingsley, volunteer chairman of the PHUMC Foundation. “We are excited that Rev. Lindsey has agreed to accept this very important role in assisting members with planned giving and lifetime gifts for the benefit of Pulaski Heights. Lynn’s dedication and love for the church and its membership makes her uniquely qualified to lead this ministry as the first executive director of the PHUMC Foundation.”
Willing Friends are those who have notified the church that they have named Pulaski Heights united Methodist Church in their wills. An annual luncheon is held in their honor to celebrate their acts of faith. To join, contact Rev. Lynn Lindsey at (501)664-3600 or llindsey@phumc.com
