MISSION AND OUTREACH GOALS 2010

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment and a second is like it, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  Matthew 22:37-39
We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ in mission serving those around the world as well as in our community. Mission is the Spirit of the Lord inspiring and enabling us as Christ’s disciples to share our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness.
• Promote mission awareness, education and involvement
• Promote six United Methodist Church special offerings and six local offerings
• Organize Guatemala medical & construction mission trip for 2010
• Support youth mission trips
• Participate and support in Interfaith Hospitality Network
• Participate and support in Give a Kid a Chance through Wakefield Elementary providing backpacks, school supplies and uniforms to children in need
• Provide prison ministry monthly through church service and MiWatch
• Provide Christmas for families in need through Wakefield Elementary
• Raise $50,000 in Second Mile Giving
• Support Duncan UMC Shalom Center project
• Sponsor Mission Market in November
• Promote church-wide participation in the Ingathering in October
• Organize blood drives four times a year – or as needed
• Promote church-wide participation in Advance giving
• Support Camp Aldersgate and promote participation in activities
• Offer annual mission trip to UMCOR/Sager-Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana
• Tutor children at Pulaski Heights Elementary School and Wakefield Elementary
• Participate and support the new health clinic for the underinsured
• Support Habitat for Humanity through work teams and others areas as requested
• Sponsor and develop a covenant relationship with missionaries through the United Methodist Church
• Sponsor Miles for Missions, a 5K and 1.5 family fun run/walk, raising money for missions in spring 2010
• Be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide and direct us during the year to the needs in our local community and around the world and how we an and should respond
• To continue to use TM2 as a way to locate volunteers for ministry
• Support Bishop’s appeals and other offerings for disaster
